Winter tyres offer 'safer alternative'

Commercial drivers are being advised to fit their vehicles with winter tyres to enhance road safety this winter.

According to the road safety charity TyreSafe, doing so can significantly reduce the chances of personal injury or motoring accidents during this year's cold season.

In particular, the group is advising commercial drivers to take care when driving in snowy conditions, as this is when a high proportion of accidents occur.

Rob Beddis, chairman of TyreSafe, commented: "Fitting cold weather tyres can provide significant safety benefits.

"They are designed to perform more effectively in the cold and wet weather, dramatically improving stopping distances."

A major benefit of winter tyres in treacherous conditions is the improvement in road safety which they bring, a factor that can also help motorists acquire a cheap van insurance policy.

Earlier in the week, it was revealed that the Retail Motor Industry Federation were placing increasing pressure on the government to provide support to the fleet industry.
