Commercial drivers 'must take care' over winter

Commercial drivers have been advised to take the utmost care while travelling on British roads this winter.

The Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) has published a set of useful guidelines to aid motorists during the most treacherous of seasons.

These include using lower gears to help traction, turning on headlights during bad weather and keeping well behind the vehicle in front.

A statement from IAM read: "Drivers should remember to be cautious at all times, check the weather forecast before heading off on their journey and prepare for familiar, short journeys as well as long ones."

Motorists should bear in mind that accidents on the road during winter can not only lead to the loss of a cheap van insurance policy, but can result in injury or loss of life.

Earlier in the month, it was revealed that the road safety charity Brake was lobbying for a reduction in the drink-driving limit.
